Returning to Tradition
Calvin College’s student government organization has been in existence since 1918. Student Senate exists to be the voice of the student body and represent student opinion to the college administration. Senate launches different programs and initiatives to better the lives of students and empowers students to become better leaders by serving on Senate or by being a representative on a governance committee.
As servants of God and the representative voice of the Student Body, we link students and College decision-makers, engage their perspectives, and pursue positive change with integrity.
IT BEGAN WITH THE NEED FOR CHANGE
The old student senate logo too closely resembled the iconic London Underground logo. The Senate brand as a whole was inconsistent and needed structure and guidelines to ensure its credibility as an organization. A key aspect of the rebrand was the desire to portray the strong connection between the student body and Senate.
WE DID OUR RESEARCH
We began the design process with mood boards and inspiration searches. We wanted shift the focus to the long-standing tradition behind student government at Calvin. From the reasearch, we learned the importance of using symmetry to show balance and visual stability.
SEAL THE DEAL
Following in the footsteps of other government organizations, we created an official seal for Calvin Senate. From the seal, we established brand colors and typography to maintain a consistent image online and on campus. We then went on to create brand guidelines to direct future members and staff.
