Experience the Amazon in Virtual Reality
'Under the Canopy' is a virtual reality film set in the lush Amazonian rainforest that tells the story of brave indigenous peoples and their fight to protect the forest around them. This is the second film in a series of virtual reality films produced by Conservation International and Jaunt VR. The internal creative team at CI was tasked with the naming, branding, and art direction for the film.
Design, Art Direction
WE NEED THE RAINFOREST
Amazonia is invaluable to human well-being: We need it to breathe, store carbon and provide critical medicines.
WE PRESENTED FOUR UNIQUE DIRECTIONS
After agreeing on the name 'Under the Canopy' we worked to establish an art direction for the film. The concepts below reflect a range of different directions we were exploring — from a storybook-style theme to a modern, contemporary style.
WE PLACED THE EMPHASIS ON PEOPLE
The concept on the lower right best fulfilled our goals for the film — to establish CI as a modern and innovative brand, and to focus in on the main character, Kamanja. This type lockup portrays the silhouette the main character of the film in the negative space of the letter 'O', and it gives a visual suggestion to the awe and wonder one experiences while viewing the film in virtual reality.
WE PROMOTED ON SOCIAL
We used our social media channels to promote the film with compelling infographics about the Amazon region.
AND DELIVERED IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES
Because CI is an international organization, we needed a name and title lockup that would easily translate to other languages. 'Under the Canopy' is currently being produced in Spanish, Portugese, and Dutch—with more translations coming soon.
WE PROVIDED AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE
Part of the rollout for the film includes a long list of events and in-person screenings. We produced signage and materials that travel with the film to the different screenings to increase our brand awareness and enhance the viewer's experience.
